Life Keeps Changing!

Change…it’s all about change.  We are in a time where
things have been changing drastically…a fluctuating
economy, falling (now rising) gas prices, layoffs, high
unemployment rates and a new president who is all about
change.  Change is all around us.

I remember a wise instructor I had once said:  “the only
constant is change”.  At that time I was in the early stages of
my life and I did not understand what that meant.  Well, more
accurately, I thought he was just being weird and
philosophical.  Many years later I have come to realize what
he really meant.  Life changes constantly…our thoughts
change constantly.  One moment things are running
smoothly, then the next moment it changes to a bumpy road.
For example, before starting my own business I had a great
corporate job and progressed nicely in my career.  Then a
new head of the organization came in…my smooth job
quickly turned bumpy.  Same with relationships.  They can
start out smooth and lovely, then turn into a difficult road.

The key to navigating change is being flexible and
adaptable.  I have found if I fight change or ignore it, things
are more difficult.  When I accept change I am able to
navigate better.  I am not saying to ignore the feelings
associated with the change, such as fear, disappointment,
anger or excitement.  It is important to feel the emotions
associated with the change and move forward through it.
What I also find helpful is to observe the change objectively
and be able to understand why things happened.  For
example, when a relationship ends, it is good to reflect on
why the relationship began in the first place and what was to
be learned from it.  Same with a job…take a look at what
skills or abilities were learned before it ended.  By looking at
why something was in your life helps to provide a learning
and growing aspect to the change.

Yes, change is not easy.  Knowing that change is constant
and looking at what was learned before and during the
change is helpful during the process.  Life is full of change - -
time to embrace it!
